What the world needs is not romantic lovers who are sufficient unto themselves, but husbands and wives who live in communities, relate to other people, carry on useful work and willingly give time and attention to their children.

A happy marriage is based on discovery.
For each delights in the differences in the other.
And goes on learning all life long.
The exciting adventure of marriage is finding out who the partner really is.

What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined for life?
To strengthen each other in all labour.
To rest on each other in all sorrow.
To minister to each other in all pain.
There is no more lovely, friendly and charming relationship, communion or company than a good marriage.

Our life can be very complex.
Happiness is making life simple.
But simple isn’t easy.
Simple just looks easy.
( Eileen Hutchison, 1926-2008 )

A happy marriage has in it all the pleasures of friendships, all the enjoyments of sense and reason, and indeed all the sweets of life.

You don’t lose friends, because real friends can never be lost.
You lose people masquerading as friends, and you’re better for it.

There is no greater risk than matrimony, but there is nothing happier.

Marriage has in it less of beauty, but more of safety, than the single life.
It has not more ease, but less danger.
It is more merry and more sad.
It is fuller of sorrows and fuller of joys.
It lies under more burdens, but is supported by all the strengths of love and charity, and those burdens are delightful.
Marriage is the mother of the world, and preserves kingdoms, and fills cities and churches, and heaven itself.

It is not beauty that endears, it’s love that makes us see beauty.
( Leo Tolstoy )

Everybody marries for ‘love’.
And if what he or she loves most is money, or position, or security, or looks, or pleasure-seeking, then this is the love that the marriage is based on.

Marriage is the fusion of two hearts, the union of two lives.

I don’t want to be married just to be married.
I can’t think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can’t talk to, or worse, someone I can’t be silent with.

( Mary Ann Shaffer )

There are just two times I want to be with you.
Now and forever.

If everything I say would make you smile, I would never stop talking.

I feel like I’ve loved you from the beginning of time.
As if we came from the same star.

If I get married, I want to be very married.
( Audrey Hepburn )

He asked why the house wasn’t clean since I’m at home all day.
I asked him why we aren’t rich seeing he works all day.

It’s very sad when you keep getting hurt and you feel you have to say, ‘I’m used to it’.

If the only time you think about me is when you want something, then please, call someone else.

Marriage is a fine institution, but I’m not ready for an institution.
( Mae West )

When Marriage Became A Legal Contract.
The Register Office was once seen as a poor substitute where divorcees slipped silently through the doors for a second try, or brides who had put on an unnatural amount of weight tied the knot in a hurry.
Now though, the licensing of some of the country’s beautiful buildings to hold wedding ceremonies and the decreasing percentage of church-goers has made the registrar an attractive alternative.
Before 1753 many ordinary men and women simply gave a verbal consent and considered themselves to be wed.
In terms of cohabiting as opposed to marriage, the statistics then are not so different from now.
In 1753 marriage became a legal contract and the ceremony had to take place in a parish church and before a minister of the Church of England.
Only Jews and Quakers were exempt.
In 1837 all marriages had to be registered.

The wedding dress might signify purity but it became the fashion only after Queen Victoria chose a white gown for herself.
Most people did not have the luxury of buying special clothes for one occasion and if they did they often wore black.

When two people are under the influence of the most violent, most insane, most delusive, and most transient of passions, they are required to swear that they will remain in that excited, abnormal, and exhausting condition continuously until death do them part.
( George Bernard Shaw )

You can’t sleep?
Me neither.
Let’s can’t sleep together.

I’m not single.
I’m not taken.

I’m simply on reserve for the one who deserves my heart.

I have a history.
Some people love me, some like me, and some hate me.

I have done good, and I have done bad.
I’m random and crazy.

I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not.
I am who I am.

You can love me or not, I won’t change.
And if I love you, I do it with all my heart.
I make no apologies for who I am.

I usually become a ghost to those who no longer deserve my time.
I’ve never seen a point in explaining my absence to someone who failed to appreciate my presence.
You don’t owe any explanations to those who hurt you.

( R.H. Sin )

I don’t care what anyone thinks.
If you don’t like me, don’t talk to me.
Problem solved.

Love is about danger, always.
Love jumps off cliffs.
Love is irrational, i
t keeps you alive and it destroys you.

The union of the family lies in love.
And love is the only reconciliation of authority and liberty.

And all these people lived not by reason of any care they had for themselves, but by the love for them that was in other people.
( Leo Tolstoy )

Nothing Ought To Rule But Love.
A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers.
Marriage is three parts love and seven parts forgiveness.
Between a man and his wife nothing ought to rule but love.
Eternal God, creator and redeemer, giver of every perfect gift.
Fill us with the riches of thy grace, breathe into our marriage the strength of the Holy Spirit.
Deliver us from evil and lead us into all peace.

Preserve us going out and us coming in.
Let our love for each other be a seal upon our heart and a mantle about our shoulders.
Be with us in work and in companionship, in waking and in sleeping, in joys and in sorrows, in life and in death.

Grant us to be faithful in body, mind and spirit.
Make our home a place of joy, our responsibilities a source of blessing.
And bring us at last to the banquet in heaven where the saints rejoice for ever before thy face.

Sometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other.
Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then.
( Katharine Hepburn )

Rejection doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough.
It means the other person failed to notice how special you are.

Some people will only love you as long as you fit into their box.
Don’t be afraid to shove that box up their ass.

If you think my silence means you have got away with abusing me, think again.
I will no longer tolerate your lies and excuses for hurting me.
I have walked away with my head held high and a smile on my face.

The person you took for granted today may be the person you need tomorrow.
Be careful how you treat people.

Why does a woman work ten years to change a man, then complain he’s not the man she married?
( Barbra Streisand )

Have you ever missed someone so much that even the thought of them made you burst into tears.

The embrace of love held too tightly destroys the one you love.

To change people you must love them.
Your influence reaches only as far as your love.

Absence hinders love.
Presence strengthens it.

Men marry because they are tired, women, because they are curious.
Both are disappointed.

( Oscar Wilde )

Sometimes walking away is the only option.
Because you finally respect yourself enough to know that you deserve better.

The whole worth of a kind deed lies in the love that inspires it.

Find a partner who encourages you to grow.
Who won’t cling to you.
Who will let you go out into the world.
And trust that you will come back.

How lovely to be with those we love.

He is not going to be perfect, but if he is kind and thoughtful, if he knows how to work and earn a living, if he is honest and full of faith, the chances are you will not go wrong, that you will be immensely happy.
( Gordon B. Hinckley )

True love is forgiving.

Strangers can become best friends.
And best friends can become strangers.

One cannot love and be wise.

Marriage is sharing yesterday’s sweetest memories, tomorrow’s brightest dreams, and today’s deepest joys.
Marriage is sharing the little everyday things that make life warm and secure.
Hand-holding walks and weekend chores, candlelight and laughter, cosy talks and goodnight hugs.

Where love is, there is faith.
Where there is no trust there is no love.

Labour is light where love doth pay.

I know enough to know that no woman should ever marry a man who hated his mother.
( Martha Gellhorn )

Love those who will love you when you have nothing to offer but your company.

True love shows itself in time of need

The art of apology is simply the willingness to admit wrong.
To regret mistakes and say so.
When this quality is part of love, you have nothing to fear, nothing to hide.
Real love requires a large measure of mercy.
Love keeps no score of wrongs.

There is no fear in love.
But perfect love casts out fear.

Man and wife, a king and queen with one or two subjects, and a few square yards of territory of their own.
This, really, is marriage.
It is true freedom because it is a true fulfillment, for man, woman and children.

The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing.
And then marry him.
( Cher )

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.

Marriage…
It begins with a prince kissing an angel.

It ends with a bald-headed man looking across the table at a fat woman.

Marriage halves our griefs, doubles our joys, and quadruples our expenses.

Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes.
Because for those who love with heart and soul, there is no such thing as separation.
( Rumi )
